The investigation report prepared by the police for almost two months about the gang that sent Nepalese citizens as fake Bhutanese refugees to America is ready to be submitted to the district attorney’s office today. Based on the complaints of the victims, the Nepal Police started investigating the case of fake Bhutanese refugees from Chait 12th.

Sitaram Rizal, Spokesperson of District Police Complex, Kathmandu, informed that preparations are being made to submit the investigation report to submit a supplementary report with additional evidence on some of the issues seen in the investigation. In this case, the police arrested 16 people, including the former deputy prime minister, the former home minister, and the then home secretary, and started an investigation. Sanu Bhandari of Lalitpur, Keshav Dulal of Morang and Tank Gurung were arrested on 12th Chait 2079 and investigation was started.

Sagar Rai and Sandesh Sharma were arrested during the investigation and based on the evidence found, there was a collusion of a big gang including the then Home Minister and Home Secretary. Police arrested former Home Minister Balkrishna Khan and his aide Narendra KC on 27th Baisakh based on the evidence of money transactions along with statements of Indrajit Rai on 19th Baisakh and former Home Secretary Teknarayan Pandey on 20th. Top Bahadur Rayamazhi, the absconding former Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary (suspended) of Nepal Communist Party (UML) was arrested on May 31 and Constituent Assembly member Angtawa Sherpa was arrested on June 1 after the arrest warrant was issued on May 20.

Similarly, Nepal Haj Committee Chairman Shamsher Mian and Bhutanese human rights leader Teknath Rizal were arrested on May 4. Preparations have been made to hand over the arrested 16 people to the district attorney’s office today along with the investigation report.

According to local sources, Prateek Thapa, son of Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, son of Indrajit Rai and Niraj Rai, son of Indrajit Rai, who are absconding after the arrest warrant was issued, were found to be directly involved in the money transaction and 14 other people were found to be middlemen and accomplices.

A task force was formed in May 2076 in accordance with the plan to rehabilitate the exempted Bhutanese refugees in third countries, but this incident happened in the gang’s plan to take Nepali citizens to America by adding a schedule to the report of that task force. From Gorkhapatra dai
